5Lawful bases

Depending on the processing, Deal Origination may rely on:

Contract — steps connected with providing the service, where information is required to provide access or functionality to an authorised user.

Legitimate interests, including operating and securing the platform, providing professional acquisition research functionality, analysing publicly available corporate information for legitimate business and acquisition-research purposes, and maintaining and improving the service.

Where legitimate interests are relied upon, those interests are considered against the rights and interests of affected individuals.

Legal obligations, where information needs to be processed or retained to comply with applicable law.

Consent is not the general lawful basis unless processing genuinely relies on consent.

6Companies House and public information

Much of the corporate information used by Deal Origination comes from the UK public register maintained by Companies House.

  • The underlying information is publicly accessible
  • Companies House receives and publishes information filed with it
  • Public-register information should not be assumed to have been independently verified for accuracy
  • Deal Origination may process and organise that information for acquisition research
  • Users should verify material information against current source documents before relying on it

Deal Origination is not affiliated with or endorsed by Companies House.

7Sharing information

Information may be processed by service providers necessary to operate Deal Origination, for example:

  • Hosting and platform providers
  • Authentication providers
  • Infrastructure and security providers
  • Other service providers required to deliver platform functionality

Deal Origination does not sell personal information to data brokers or advertisers. Some infrastructure providers necessarily process information in order to deliver the service.

8International processing

Some technology providers may process information in countries outside the UK. Where this occurs, processing and transfers are handled in accordance with applicable data-protection requirements and the arrangements of the relevant service provider.

9How long information is kept

Information is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for:

  • Providing the service
  • Maintaining an authorised account
  • Maintaining legitimate acquisition and research records
  • Security
  • Resolving disputes
  • Meeting legal obligations

Retention may depend on the nature of the information and the purpose for which it is held.

10Security

Reasonable technical and organisational measures are used to protect platform information. No system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

11Individual rights

Depending on the circumstances and the lawful basis, individuals may have rights relating to:

  • Access
  • Rectification
  • Erasure
  • Restriction
  • Objection
  • Data portability
  • Withdrawal of consent where processing actually relies on consent

Right to object. You have the right to object to processing carried out under legitimate interests. To exercise this or any other right, contact hello@dealorigination.co.uk.

12Public-register information

A request concerning information originating from Companies House may not necessarily result in alteration or removal of the underlying Companies House record. Where appropriate, you may also need to contact Companies House regarding the source record.

13Automated analysis and human judgement

Deal Origination may generate qualification indicators, financial estimates, succession indicators and other analytical outputs. These are decision-support tools. They do not make legally binding acquisition decisions on behalf of users. Acquisition decisions remain subject to human judgement and verification.

14Complaints

Privacy concerns should first be sent to hello@dealorigination.co.uk.

Individuals also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO): ico.org.uk.
